Motivating Students for Success Many problems can prevent a potential graduate from completing their college degree. Student motivation is the key to student success. According to a survey of 601 leaders including professors, dean, higher education administrators, government officials and business leaders conducted by The National Center for Public Policy and Higher Education (1999) most “believe that lack of student motivation and responsibility is a more important obstacle to getting a higher education than is lack of money” (1999). They believe that a lack of motivation and direction are greater obstacles to student success than lack of money or skills (1999). Motivation is the key to student success in all socioeconomic statuses. Reference The National Center for Public Policy and Higher Education. (1999). Part I: Areas of consensus.
